Most of us are told from a young age, "Money can't buy happiness." But, is this old adage actually true?! Join representatives from the Office of Student Philanthropy to learn about the most recent psychological research on happiness, service, and giving. Using this research, we will offer tips & tricks for finding impactful college experiences that involve service and philanthropy on campus.
No matter what your class year is, you are already shaping your student legacy on campus. However, legacy is a confusing term, and it is thrown around a lot at Ohio State. This session will help demystify the concept of "student legacy," talk about effective ways to shape your Buckeye legacy and discuss strategies to connect with alumni during your first year. Presenters include representatives from the Class Gift Council and the Office of Student Philanthropy.
Join leaders from three different nonprofits that were created and are currently run by Buckeyes. Hear how these students came up with their idea, went through the non-profit creation process, and balanced running a non-profit with their schoolwork. While the moderator will come prepared with some questions, there will be time for the audience to ask questions at the end.
Thursday, March 2
When doing any work for social good, whether that is community service or philanthropy, it is important to consider the way our own social identities and those of the folks we are serving influence our community engagement. Come to this session to explore more about your own identities, learn tangible skills for how to practice identity-consciousness while giving back, and connect with others who want to do the same.

Join Student Philanthropy student leaders and staff members to discuss pressing issues regarding the current state of philanthropy locally, nationally, and internationally. The discussion will cover a range of topics, including how we can choose one cause over another, what is the responsibility of a donor, and how we can ensure that organizations are creating sustainable solutions. Lunch will be provided to all attendees.
If you're interested in getting involved with philanthropy, what's your why? In this interactive session, students will explore the connection between their personal values, leadership practice, and interest in philanthropy. Participants will take part in activities that help them to identify their core values and how they were developed over time. Knowledge of your values is critical as they often guide decisions in personal, academic, and work-related situations. This session will offer students the opportunity to examine whether their involvements are reflective of the values most important to them, which will continue to be a helpful exercise throughout the rest of their lives.
